The United States of America is in an energy crisis. America is a great country with a good deal of power among other countries, while power and respectability are good, they may also be not so good. This is evident with the country's current economic state. It is arguable that energy (oil) is one of the main reasons why our country's economy is not healthy. America's was once great and was the center and model by which the rest of the world followed, but now that the economy has crashed, there is chaos in the economic world and panic in everyday homes. The economy's crash directly affects the common man because the price of gas and other everyday needs have sky-rocketed.
It can easily be agreed upon that the time for alternative energy is now. Oil is no longer easily accessible and alternative energy spokespeople preach of the accessibility and the possibility of cleaner energy sources as the wave of the future but according to Thomas L. Friedman of the New York Times' "Eight Strikes You're Out", Presidential candidate Senator John McCain disagrees. Friedman explains that the senator has now failed to vote eight times on a bill that would no doubt further alternative energy technologies. Friedman calls the senator out on his hypocrisy because the senator not too long ago, called for congress to "get back to work" on solving our nations energy crisis.

The energy issue in America today is scary. Especially moving to an area where gas stations completely run out of gas or are forced to inflate their prices due to hurricane warnings. McCain's stance on this issue is ambiguous to me, especially after Palin's speech to the Republican Convention. She states in her speech that she wants to start drilling in Alaska as soon as possible. I feel like their campaign only claims to support striving to change to new energy methods strictly for the campaign.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think McCain sees Iraq as the solution to our economic crisis should gas(oil) be affecting it as you say it is. Iraq holds the second largest oil reserve on this planet, and about 90% of it is unexposed, if US gets control over it, then everything will fall into place as the rest of the world will be importing oil from us, hence to why keep our troops there.
I completely agree. It seems to me that McCain is just hopping onto the saving the world bandwagon because he realizes that is a major issue with Americans today. He realized Obama was making headway with his view so he just wants to join in. I agree with Jane Doe that the McCain Palin campaign is only sayin half the stuff their saying just to win the election, but what happens if they don't, will our views and fears go unheard?
If what john said is true about what McCain plans for Iraq than I am even more against his energy plans. We shouldn't be fighting a war to get oil, we should be using that money to find long-term solutions in renewable energy sources. I think this is another reason why we should leave Iraq. If we are saying it is to spread democracy but really it is for selfish reasons, like wanting to exploit the country and take their resources, than we need to get out of there before we are hated any more.
